Clayton Preston was born in 1955 in Atlanta, GA., and earned his B.A. in Psychology at Washington & Lee University in 1977. He married Anne Cumming in 1980 and they moved to Virginia where he completed his Master of Architecture degree from Viginia Tech in 1984. They returned to Atlanta raise their daughter and son. Clayton is a registered architect and joined the American Institute of Architects in 1990.

IN 1995 he and Greg Ramsey developed Lake Clair Commons, winner of Georgia AIA's 1998 Excellence in Design Award for sustainablility.Following the successful completeion of this project, clayton and Greg fromed the planning firm, Village Habitat Design, LLC.

Since that time, Village Habitat Design has gone on to win many awards, including more awards from Atlanta Regional Commission than any other firm and more awards for sustainable design from AIA GA. than any other firm. In 2001 the firm received the United Nation's World Habitat Award for ecological community design for the East Lake Commons Community. He was accepted as a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2003.

With Village Habitat Design, Clayton's focus has been program strategy, development economics, grouop processes, and team management. In 2004 Clayton changed focus and started to join his clients as equity partner in new projects. By late 2005 he foresaw an imminent shift in the real estate market and began liquidating his real estate holdings in anticipation of a downturn. By late 2006 all of his personal real estate holdings had been sold, and all of his partnership holdings were debt-free.

He currently has 3 sustainable community projects in the design and entitlement phases in Tennessee, Florida and Georgia. He expects to be very well positioned for late 2008-early 2009.
